In some cases a physical barrier is the best protection against the spread of antimicrobial resistant pathogens or genes, or of antimicrobial resistant drugs into the environment.
Holding Pond Liners
Holding ponds are used to collect runoff from the controlled drainage area of a feedlot. They prevent contamination of the environment, including nearby groundwater sources.
Antimicrobial Drug Disposal
Expired or unused antimicrobial drugs must be disposed of properly so that they don’t leech into the environment. Human drugs can be returned to any pharmacy in Canada. For livestock drug disposal, there are a number of other programs available.

Biohazard Disposal
Indirect disease transmission can occur through exposure to contaminated medical equipment or deceased animals. Unwanted medications and pesticides must also be safely disposed of.
