Admissions update 03/24

Dear Applicants,

I hope this post finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. During this time, I recognize the COVID-19 pandemic is causing considerable disruption to everyones lives including those in undergrad and graduate studies. In addition, the anxiety and stress associated with trying to get into medical school and or thinking of applying for the next or future cycles does not diminish. First and foremost, continue to take care of yourselves.

I would like to answer a few common questions. I will be as transparent as possible, and as always during this time; things are subject to change. I will try to provide updates weekly but due to competing commitments for my time I won’t be able to answer a barrage of followup questions.

1. The decision on how we will handle this years cycle has been finalized and approved by the admissions committee. It is consistent with the previous post.

2. We are doing our utmost to come up with a solution for the virtual MMI. Previous solutions have had to change due to the evolving policies within our institution, privacy issues, and potential contracting issues with any external vendor (s). WE ARE STILL AIMING FOR A DATE OF APRIL 4th. This is subject to change. In the event that the crisis does not allow for a virtual MMI, a plan for assessment has been approved by the admissions committee. I will not elaborate and please do not ask or make suggestions as this decision is final.

3. All admission offers will go out at the same time, regardless if you are part of COHORT 1 or COHORT 2. Due to the fact that the disruption is causing more internal work for the admissions office we do not anticipate sending out offers before the Week of May 11th.

4. For future applicants, a decision on how we will handle, the 2019-20 academic year or the winter semester has not been made We are working with other medical schools across the country and this is high priority discussion item. We will update our applicant manual when a decision has been made.

I want to thank everyone again for their patience. I know these decisions will impact many of you in many different ways.
