Sedimentary Systems Research

University of Calgary

Dr. Steve Hubbard and his research group uses principles of siliciclastic sedimentology and stratigraphy to solve a variety of problems. Our research spans spatial scales, from bedforms to basins, and includes investigation of both modern and ancient systems. Recent areas of focus include (i) deep-water sedimentary processes and stratigraphy; (ii) Mesozoic Cordillera evolution of the Americas; (iii) fluvial meander belt geomorphology and stratigraphic architecture, and (iv) paleoenvironmental reconstructions of early hominid landscapes. Application and development of novel ways to investigate sedimentary systems and their deposits are a focus, including of 3-D outcrop modeling and detrital zircon geochronology.
