There are many ways for you to get involved as a student at UofC!
Below, we have compiled a number of opportunities that enable you to participate and be active as a student.

Chacmool
Chacmool is the undergraduate archaeology club at the University of Calgary. Chacmool is happy to accept members who have an interest in archaeology (no, you do not have to be majoring in archaeology or anthropology to join)! If you are interested, please email chacmoolarky@gmail.com
Chacmool hosts events regularly and needs volunteers to help with set-up and take-down. If you are interested in earning volunteer hours that are recognized by the Students’ Union, please email chacmoolarky@gmail.com
Archaeological Society of Alberta
The ASA is the local and most accessible archaeological society for students.
The regional Centres (Edmonton, Bodo, Red Deer, Calgary, Lethbridge, and Southeastern) operate independently, holding regular monthly meetings throughout the year and field trips during the summer months.
Membership to the ASA includes benefits such as discounted prices for events, workshops, and activities. Members also receive a subscription to the Alberta Archaeological Review, which features the latest reports on archaeology in Alberta. By joining, you’ll have the opportunity to run for board positions and support the vision and mission of the Archaeological Society of Alberta.
Alberta Museums Association
The AMA is a non-profit society through which museum workers can meet for the benefit of Alberta’s developing museum community.
Membership to the AMA includes discounts on courses, workshops, and the Annual Conference, exclusive member pricing on AMA publications, volunteer, mentoring, and publishing opportunities, access to publications, advisories, and other resources to help you stay up-to-date on trends affecting cultural professionals.
Joining the AMA is a great start to becoming involved in the Museum and Heritage sector in Alberta.
Society for American Archaeology
The SAA is an international organization that is dedicated to research about and interpretation and protection of the archaeological heritage of the Americas.
Membership to the SAA includes access to online learning opportunities, multiple peer reviewed journals (American Antiquity, Latin American Antiquity, Advances in Archaeological Practice), memoirs of the Society for American Archaeology, and access to awards, scholarships, and career boards posted by the SAA.

Faculty of Arts Student Association
FASA focuses on pride, academics, community, and engagement for all students in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary. The FASA council is the primary outreach and engagement body for FASA; each year the executive committee of FASA hire students to represent their departments on the council. Applying to be a representative for your department is a great way to get involved. Additionally, all of the FASA meetings are open for all students to attend and contribute to the discussion of student issues!

Volunteer Services
Students interested in volunteer opportunities around campus, around the city or around the world, should chat with Volunteer Services in room 225 in MacEwan Student Centre (Mac Hall). Volunteer services can connect you with organizations and groups who could use your help! Additionally, check out their resource binders to find current long and short-term volunteer positions.
ClubHub
Your destination for discovering unique opportunities! Find and attend events, browse and join organizations, and showcase your involvement as a student at UofC.
In addition to all of these opportunities, please keep in mind that there are numerous events going on within the department — such as the Mesoamerican Reading Group. If you are interested in learning more about department specific opportunities/ events, please contact chacmoolarky@gmail.com
