UofC Resources

The University of Calgary has lots of important resources for students! Below, you will find links to UofC student advising, health and wellness services, and student accessibility services.

Student Advising

Students in the Faculty of Arts (i.e., Anthropology and Archaeology students) can make appointments for advising with both the Arts Student Centre (ASC) and the Student Success Centre (SSC). The ASC focuses on helping students assess their degree progression, answer questions about specific courses/ programs, and address concerns regarding graduation. The SSC focuses on enabling students to succeed in their courses by helping students with goal setting, time management, study skills, test preparation, and access to other campus resources. The SSC also offers writing support, through free individual writing consultations.

MyUCalgary

The MyUCalgary student portal has a few helpful features that make advising/ degree planning even easier for students to do on their own! In MyUCalgary, navigate to the “Program and Advising Info” tab. On this page, you will see several links beneath your current program information…

The “Academic Requirements Report” link tells you exactly what courses you have completed, where they are being counted, and what requirements remain before you can graduate. This particular link should save students a trip to the Advisors.

The “Change of Program” link allows students to easily declare a new major, minor, or, switch into a completely new degree program.

The “GPA Calculator” link allows you to calculate your GPA based on a selection of courses, or all of them.

The “What-If Advisement Scenario” link allows students to create hypothetical situations and shows them how that would transpire. For example, you can select courses (“What if I took this Geography course, would that meet my degree requirements?”), select new minors (“What if I declared a Geology minor?”), or select new majors (“What if I switched majors, would any of my courses still count for credits?”). This feature is especially helpful for students interested in planning out their courses for each year.

Anthropology and Archaeology Department Contacts

Wondering how to contact staff within the department? Contact information for the Department Head, Undergraduate/ Graduate Program Directors, Administrative Staff, and the Academic Program Specialist can be found at the “ANTH-ARKY DEPARTMENT CONTACTS” link. If you want to sign up for an ANTH or ARKY course that says “Consent of the Department,” you will need to contact the Academic Program Specialist.

Health and Wellness Services

Located in room 370 of MacEwan Student Centre (Mac Hall), Student Wellness Services offers medical and mental health care, as well as chiropractic and massage appointments with professionals. Student Wellness Services also offers peer support by trained student volunteers who are there to listen and talk with you about your concerns. Everything you tell them is confidential, unless you’re at risk of harming yourself or someone else.

Located in room 487 of MacEwan Student Centre (Mac Hall), the Faith and Spirituality Centre seeks to cultivate a pluralistic community by encouraging cultural and religious literacy, community building, and social change as an integral part of the student experience. The centre manages several multi-faith spaces on campus to support well-being. Students may drop in to any space that is not booked, or make a one-time or ongoing booking.

Located in room 482 of MacEwan Student Centre (Mac Hall), the Women’s Resource Centre offers a safe, inclusive, and welcoming place for students, staff, faculty, and community to connect. They aim to help develop practical skills to support feminist theory learned in the classroom.

Located in room 210 of MacEwan Student Centre (Mac Hall), the Q Centre is a safe and comfortable space for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community at the University of Calgary to come together. The centre offers peer support services, the opportunity to participate in community events, a place to hangout, and a library filled with books on 2SLGBTQIA+ topics!

Student Accessibility

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) aims to work collaboratively and innovatively with the campus community to create an accessible, equitable and supportive learning environment that enhances each student’s academic and personal development. While students can register with SAS at any point in their program, it can take time to organize academic accommodations and funding for disability-related services. Students are encouraged to register with SAS as early in their program as possible.
