The International Organization for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IOIBD) is the only international worldwide organization devoted to these chronic and sometimes disabling diseases involving different parts of the gastrointestinal tract.
The goal of the Global IBD Visualization of Epidemiology Studies (GIVES) initiative is to create a single web-based repository for the global epidemiology of IBD. IOIBD GIVES defines the epidemiology of IBD by synthesizing previously published, as well as updating, systematic reviews of population-based studies reporting the burden of IBD (e.g., incidence, prevalence, hospitalization, risk of surgery) of IBD across the world.
Data are derived from systematic reviews of the global incidence and prevalence of IBD: in the 20th century published in Gastroenterology in 2012, in the 21st century published in The Lancet in 2017, and recently updated to ensure that the most up-to-date information on the incidence and prevalence of IBD is available. Moreover, the map includes all population-based studies evaluating hospitalizations rates for IBD across the world. As more information is added to this dynamic website, IOIBD GIVES will be the centralized site to define the burden of IBD in the world.

Our atlas of IBD is a living project that we want to update as new data is published. Moreover, as you can see on the map, we have not yet established global coverage.
