In January, Aalap started working as a research assistant in the Crop Biotechnology Laboratory headed by Dr. Fredy Altpeter at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.
He is applying modern genome editing strategies, including CRISPR-Cas9, to develop sorghum varieties better suited for use as bioenergy and biofuel feedstock. This experience will allow him to pursue his interests in plant biotechnology and breeding.
